Beautiful lips come in a range of shapes and sizes. While some people think that having an Angelina Jolie supersized pout will automatically turn them into a ravishing beauty, it’s really not that simple. The key is having well-proportioned lips, which means taking your entire facial anatomy into account when determining the optimal size of your lips. Hitting the right balance can help make a pleasant face absolutely beautiful, and a beautiful face breathtaking.
While we can achieve plumper lips through the application of the right lip contour in many cases, some people prefer a more long-term, hands-off solution. However, lip augmentation is a delicate process; some aspects of lip augmentation involve more than just inflating lips. If you think that lip augmentation could be right for you, here’s what you need to know about the process.
Surgical vs. non-surgical lip augmentation – what’s the difference?
Many patients struggle with choosing the type of lip augmentation that’s best for their lifestyle and goals. Patients who want permanent lip augmentation generally elect to have surgical enhancement performed. This may involve having either a synthetic implant installed, a section of their own tissue implanted, or fat transfer.
A lip implant with a synthetic device is an outpatient procedure that involves the surgeon drawing an implant with tapered ends through the length of the lower lip, upper lip, or both. The implant is then positioned, and the sutures are closed.
A lip implant with tissue transfer is generally done alongside another surgical procedure, because the surgeon has to harvest a small bit of tissue from another part of the body, generally the abdomen. The tissue is sterilized and then surgically implanted.
Fat transfer is the injection of the patient’s own purified fat into the lip areas. The fat is generally taken from the abdominal area.
Non-surgical lip augmentation is the injection of either Botox or dermal fillers. Botox is becoming a popular lip augmentation solution thanks to the “lip flip” process. This involves injecting the solution into the muscle of the upper lip, which relaxes the muscle and causes a slight protrusion of the internal portion of the upper lip. It’s a highly natural-appearing technique that creates the appearance of fullness without actually adding volume.
How much does permanent lip augmentation really cost?
The cost will depend upon the procedure you elect to have. Lip implants cost, on average, between $2,000 and $4,000. Tissue transfer implants cost between $3,000 and $6,000, and while the results can last for five years or longer, they aren’t considered permanent lip augmentation.
